Accepted Answer

Question 4

How many nights do you need in Cyprus?

Accepted Answer

Seven nights is the sensible minimum, split as three in Paphos, two in Limassol and two in Larnaca, which covers the main sites with about 300 km of driving. Ten to twelve nights lets you add Nicosia for the Cyprus Museum and one or two nights in Platres or Kakopetria for the painted Byzantine churches. Fourteen nights makes Kyrenia and Salamis in the north comfortable as a two- or three-night leg. A single-base fortnight does not work well, since Paphos to Ayia Napa is 190 km each way.

Question 5

How do I get from Larnaca airport to my hotel?

Accepted Answer

By taxi, Larnaca airport is roughly €50–60 to Nicosia, €55–70 to Ayia Napa, €70–80 to Limassol and considerably more to Paphos, which is 145 km away. Shared airport shuttles to Nicosia, Limassol and Ayia Napa cost about €8–15 a seat and run to the main towns rather than door to door. Car hire desks are in the terminal, and the A3 and A5 motorways start within minutes of the exit. If you are staying in Paphos or Coral Bay, check flights into Paphos airport instead — it is 15 km from Kato Paphos rather than an hour and forty minutes.

Question 6

Do I need a car in Cyprus?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if the archaeological sites are the reason you are coming. Choirokoitia, Palaipaphos at Kouklia, the Sanctuary of Apollo Hylates at Episkopi and the churches at Asinou and Lagoudera have no practical bus service, and there is no railway anywhere in Cyprus. Intercity coaches at €4–9 do link Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca, Paphos and Ayia Napa well enough for a town-to-town trip. Hire costs about €25–45 a day in summer, driving is on the left, and the A1, A5 and A6 motorways make most journeys under an hour.

Question 7

Is Cyprus better for families or couples?

Accepted Answer

Both, but the areas divide clearly: Protaras and Coral Bay have the shallow, sheltered bays — Fig Tree Bay and Coral Bay itself — that suit young children, while Limassol’s seafront hotels and the small properties in Latchi, Pissouri and Omodos lean toward couples. Family rooms and connecting rooms are standard in the big resorts of Ayia Napa and Protaras, though many shut from mid-November to March. Couples doing a site-led trip get more out of two or three bases and a hire car than a single all-inclusive. Expect August family rates of €160–280 in a 4-star against €90–140 in October.

Question 8

What should I book early for a Cyprus trip?

Accepted Answer

Book hotels early for the first three weeks of August, Orthodox Easter (12 April in 2026), Christmas and New Year, and the Limassol Carnival weekend around Green Monday, 23 February in 2026. Sea-view rooms in Limassol and Protaras go first, and some Ayia Napa resorts impose five- to seven-night minimums in August. Hire cars are worth locking in a month ahead for July and August, when daily rates climb toward €45. Site entry needs no advance booking — Kourion, Nea Paphos and the Cyprus Museum all sell at the gate for about €4.50.
